Stolen Mezuzah replaced by generous guest

Our Mezuzah, along with its silver casing had been stolen, never to be seen again. After having experienced a few anti Semitic comments and incidents over the past couple of weeks, this was quite a shock to all of us. Of course, it was mentioned at our Shabbos table, as all our guests sympathized with this unexciting news.

A week later, we received a wonderful gift by mail. Dr. and Mrs. Cohen, of West Hempstead NY, generously sent us a new Mezuzah encased in a wooden Mezuzah cover. Our new cover matches our door perfectly. We were touched by the Cohen's kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness.

Shabbos Parshas Mishpatim

With the best ski conditions this winter, our shabbos davening was up against great competition; B”H the minyan won! Our friends parked their skis for a few hours, to join us for shabbos davening, and even stayed for lunch. Once inside, no one seemed to be in a rush.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

We had a very special Torah reading this week, when the reading was shared by 7 of our guests. As the Rabbi explained, this week we added the Parsha of the Shekel, whereby each Jew was commanded to give a half a shekel, (and not a whole). Many lessons are derived from this commandment. A Jew is always a half, and we need one another to be complete. Well, the Torah reading could not have happened without the wonderful unity we felt. Each contributed to make the whole that it was. Thanks to our wonderful visitors for the amazing experience.

We really enjoyed getting to know one another during our leisurely Kiddush. We had people from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Tosh, Washington, California, Toronto, Florida and or course, Montreal. We all agreed that this diverse group made it so interesting and exciting.

Early Sunday morning, we joined together for a special Rosh Chodesh Adar davening. Although, we missed the first run as a result, it does not compete with the Mitzvah of putting on Tefillin and davening together. We really appreciate the effort involved in joining the minyan so early in the morning.

We enjoyed the best skiing conditions. It was great to ski together and meet on the slopes.

Have a wonderful week and a very safe trip home.

Shabbos Parshas Vaera

Exciting news! We finally had our first good snowfall! Skiing conditions are great and just about everything seems to be open. Despite the cold weather that came along with it, our visitors were treated to a great vacation in Tremblant.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This week being the Yeshiva break in many of the states, brought many nice families from the surrounding areas. We had a beautiful minyan for Friday night as well as Shabbos morning, followed by a wonderful Kiddush. With the weather being quite cold, we were all happy to spend the day indoors enjoying one another’s company. We shared many experiences, divrei torah, stories and even some games throughout the afternoon. Thankfully the men then sat down to a leisurely shalosh seudos, and helped us take care of some of the leftovers. After Havdollah we parted as good friends, promising to return some time soon.

Sunday brought another day of great skiing. We had the opportunity to ski together and enjoy the great outdoors in Mont Tremblant. Hope you all have a safe trip home. We look forward to another Yeshiva break weekend this upcoming shabbos.

Have a good week.

Shabbos Parshas Toldos

In case you are wondering when the winter will finally begin, you can come to Tremblant to confirm that it has indeed begun. There is not a flake of snow in the village, and the weather quite mild and spring like; however, a few runs are in full service on the north side of the mountain, thanks to the creation of fluffy fake snow. Guests visiting during the American Thanksgiving vacation were not disappointed when they arrived in Tremblant, and were treated to the first day of skiing on Friday November 24th. Many cancelled their trip up, due to lack of snow, but the resort came through with their word and there was plenty of skiing for all.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

We were then treated to a warm Shabbos day together at Chabad. Our guests came from parts of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />New Jersey, New York and Montreal. We shared lots of divrei Torah, with debates on the Parshah, and tons of food. Of course, we got to know one another and share experiences from our Chabad houses back home. By the time the day was done, we parted as good friends and look forward to keeping in touch. Some of us even got to ski together on Sunday morning, before parting. Have a wonderful week.

The resort is really quiet. Even the weekends don’t bring too many visitors.

The group was arranged by the Sefardic Jewish Community Center of Montreal. We had no idea how many people to expect. When they finally found us, they just kept coming and coming. There must have been 50-60 people searching for Chabad. They had a wonderful day walking around Tremblant. By the time they came to Chabad they were FREEZING. We were so happy to be able to warm them up with some hot coffee, tea and cake and light refreshments. Of course there was a warm Dvar Torah enjoyed by all, followed by mincha. The group got to know one another, as they sat in our living room enjoying the snacks and the warmth.

Welcome

Thanks to all our wonderful guests, the summer season has been an amazing one. Every shabbos brought many wonderful families from across the United States and Canada. We watched our small condo stretch in size as everyone miraculously found comfort in our shul. We shared wonderful times during the Kiddush, Shalosh Seudos and even a simple coffee in the morning. After Havdallah, visitors parted as good friends, often exchanging email addresses and phone numbers. Thanks to all for joining our guest book, helping to keep the memories alive.

During the week, we had minyanim three times a day for a part of the season. As the word spread, more people joined. Many guests have been coming for years, and did not know to look out for us. We greatly appreciate everyone's help in spreading the word on the resort. Many tourists distributed our card as they met Jewish people during their vacation stay.

At this point the resort is quite quiet, as the season of the leaves comes to an end. The scenery is absolutely amazing from the top of the mountain. Hashem's beautiful world is truly appreciated in Mont Tremblant.
